Raising the income of government officials and military personnel

The government is moving forward to increase the income of government officials and military conscripts. The Royal Gazette website has published the Ministry of Finance regulations, effective 1 May 2024.

Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister, acting on behalf of the Prime Minister, revealed that from the policy of the government of Mr. Settha Thavisin, former Prime Minister, which aims to promote civil servants, permanent employees, temporary employees, and conscripts to be able to survive in the current economic situation and rising cost of living, as well as to be consistent with the adjustment of the initial salary rate and the adjustment of compensation salaries for those affected.

Yesterday (August 27, 2024), the Royal Gazette website published the Ministry of Finance regulations on the disbursement of temporary cost of living allowances for civil servants and permanent employees of government agencies, B.E. 2024. The gist of this announcement is to approve the adjustment of the maximum sala
ry or wage ceiling rate for those eligible for the temporary cost of living allowance from the original salary or wage of less than 13,285 baht per month to a salary or wage of less than 14,600 baht per month, and to adjust the minimum salary or wage ceiling rate combined with the temporary cost of living allowance from the original salary or wage of 10,000 baht per month to a salary or wage of 11,000 baht per month, effective from May 1, 2024 onwards, and to make retroactive payments.

‘The government is determined, and this is a success following the cabinet resolution on November 28, 2023 by former Prime Minister Settha Thavisin, who was determined to increase the income of civil servants, soldiers, and employees. This will be an important policy that continues from Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra, who will push for people in all occupations to have good income and quality of life, in line with the current economic situation,’ said Mr. Phumtham.
