Prime Minister Paethongtarn is not idle and is closely monitoring the flood situation in the North. A Pheu Thai Party spokesperson explained that the Prime Minister is still unable to give orders to the Cabinet due to legal limitations, while Pheu Thai MPs are mobilizing to help the people.

Mr. Danupon Punnakan, MP for the party list and spokesman for the Pheu Thai Party, said that regarding the flooding situation in many provinces in the northern region, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister, is aware of the problem and has not been indifferent. She has asked and expressed her concern to Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister acting as Prime Minister, including related agencies and local administrative organizations in various provinces in monitoring the rain and flooding situation, such as the Office of National Water Resources or ONWR and related agencies have been closely monitoring and assessing the situation and monitoring medium and small reservoirs, including predicting flood risk
areas. All agencies are doing their best.

While Pheu Thai Party MPs in the disaster areas and nearby areas have been rushing to provide assistance to the people since last night until now, such as Mr. Nattapong Supriyasilp, Nan MP for Pheu Thai Party, who discussed in the House of Representatives meeting today (22 August) about the suffering of the people of Nan Province and many northern provinces that due to the flood situation after heavy rain for many days, flash floods have flooded many districts in Chiang Rai, Nan and Phayao. For example, in Nan, there were floods and landslides in 8 out of 15 districts: Chaloem Phra Kiat, Thung Chang, Chiang Klang, Pua, Tha Wang Pha, Ban Luang, Wiang Sa and Na Noi. Floods overflowed the banks and flooded houses and agricultural areas. Livestock such as pigs, ducks, chickens, cows and buffaloes were swept away by the current, causing suffering and damage to the people’s property. At the same time, a team was sent to Ban So and Ban Nong Daeng, Tambon Pue, Amphoe Chiang
Klang to monitor the flood situation in the area, provide drinking water, provide initial assistance and coordinate with relevant agencies to provide assistance to the people in the area.

Including Ms. Wisaradee Techathirawat, Chiang Rai MP, Pheu Thai Party, who has coordinated to request assistance from the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, Upper Northern Branch (FTB) to help the victims, bring consumer goods, relieve initial suffering for the people of Doi Lan Subdistrict. In addition, all Pheu Thai Party MPs have monitored the situation and coordinated initial assistance with the area.

‘The constitutional limitation is that the prime minister cannot order the caretaker cabinet because he has not yet taken the oath to the king under Section 161 and has not yet made a policy statement to the parliament under Section 162 of the constitution. However, the prime minister has been continuously following up on the situation with those involved closely,’ said Mr. Danupon.
