PM discusses details of digital currency before big announcement on July 24

Government House, The Prime Minister led a meeting of the Digital Wallet Committee to finalize details before a major announcement on July 24, while the Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police met to urge the acceleration of the crackdown on drugs and the arrest of the perpetrators in the shooting of the Chiang Dao police officer.

Prime Minister Settha Thavisin chaired the meeting of the 10,000 baht digital wallet top-up policy committee. The subcommittee overseeing the implementation of the digital wallet top-up project will present details of the preparation of sources of funds to support the implementation of the project after it is clear.

It remains to be seen whether the Digital Committee meeting will ultimately use funds from the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) or not. After the subcommittee meeting, it was found that there may not be a need to use funds from the BAAC. After the meeting, there will be another detailed announcement on July 24, with the Prime M
inister announcing the registration date, methods, and various channels.

In addition, before the Digital Committee meeting, Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran Nuanma, Assistant Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, met with the Prime Minister to report on the progress of the expansion of drug arrests, especially in Chiang Dao District, Chiang Mai Province, where a police officer died during an arrest. The Prime Minister urged the police officers to expedite the expansion of the investigation and arrest the perpetrators as soon as possible.

At 1:00 p.m. today (July 15), the Prime Minister will chair the economic cabinet meeting to propose economic measures to the cabinet meeting tomorrow (July 16).
