“Pichet” resigns as 2nd Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, preparing to move to Deputy 1 when the House of Representatives elects him tomorrow; “Pharadon” is set to sit as Deputy 2.

Mr. Pichet Chueamuangphan sent a letter to the President of the House of Representatives requesting to resign from the position of Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, dated September 10, 2024, without stating the reason in the letter, stating only that he wishes to resign from the position of Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, effective from September 10, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. onwards.

While reporters tried to call Mr. Pichet to ask for the reason, he did not answer the phone, including Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, did not answer the phone either. Mr. Wisut Chainarun, MP for the Pheu Thai Party and chairman of the Government Coalition Coordination Committee (government whip), gave an interview saying that the resignation was to allow him to compete for the position of first deputy speaker of the House. However, he had already talked to the Bhumjaithai Party and would have Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, MP for Ang Thong, Bhumjaithai Party, who was placed to be first deputy speaker of the House, move up to be second deputy speaker of the House instead.

Pol. Lt. Col. Aphat Sukhanan, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, said that he had been informed by the Secretariat a moment ago that Mr. Pichet Chueamuangphan, the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, h
ad submitted a resignation letter, which would be effective today at 4:30 p.m., without stating a reason for his resignation, only writing briefly to the Speaker of the House that he would like to resign from his position.

When asked what the process of the council will be after this, Pol. Lt. Col. Aphat, the meeting office, will present the matter to the council president by including it in the meeting agenda as a matter that did not appear on the agenda, but asked to include an additional agenda to appoint the positions of first and second deputy council presidents on the same day.

The secretary-general of the House of Representatives continued that Mr. Pichet’s resignation should not affect the selection of the first deputy speaker because tomorrow both positions will be selected at once, with the first deputy speaker selected first and the second deputy speaker selected later.
