Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns Thais to be vigilant after 5.3-magnitude earthquake strikes, no tsunami warning

The Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that today (August 9, 2014) at 7:57 p.m. local time, an earthquake measuring 5.3 occurred. Tremors were felt in Kanagawa Prefecture and nearby prefectures, but no tsunami warning was issued.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed by the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo that today (9 August 2024) at 19:57 local time in Japan (2 hours ahead of Thailand) an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 occurred with its epicenter west of Kanagawa Prefecture. The tremors were felt in Kanagawa Prefecture and nearby provinces. However, no tsunami warning was issued.

In this regard, Thai people in the said area and nearby areas are requested to take care of themselves and monitor the situation by continuously following news from the Japanese government in case of a possible tsunami and aftershocks.
