GPSC-SUT Group launches smart energy innovation project

Miscellaneous

CHPP and Nuovo Plus, companies in the GPSC group, join hands with Suranaree University of Technology to launch the Smart Energy Innovation Project. Prototype learning resource for sustainable energy management, including Solar Rooftop -Floating Solar along with digital platforms -energy storage systems.

Mrs. Rosya Thienwan, Executive Vice President, Business Development, Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited or GPSC, the innovation leader in the electricity business of PTT Group, presided over the opening ceremony of the Smart Energy Innovation Project at Suranaree University of Technology. which is a collaboration between Companies in the GPSC group include Combined Electricity and Power Production Company Limited or CHPP, in which GPSC holds 100% of shares, and Nuovo Plus Company Limited, or Nuovo Plus, in which GPSC holds 49% of shares, with Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) to promote production. electricity from solar energy (Solar cells) inside the university building to cooperate in research and development of solar energy It is also an important source of learning about renewable energy technology and innovation in Thailand.

Mrs. Rosya said that the Smart Energy Innovation Project of Suranaree University of Technology It has an electrical generating capacity of 6 megawatts, divided into electricity production from solar rooftops (Solar Rooftop) with a capacity of 1.72 megawatts and installation of floating solar (Floating Solar) with a capacity of 4.28 megawatts. Digital system for managing energy use for maximum benefit Along with installing an energy storage system (Battery Energy Storage System: BESS) to be a smart renewable energy innovation network in higher education institutions in Thailand. and is a prototype educational institution of the intelligent electricity management system or Smart Grid that can be further developed into a smart city or Smart City in the future of Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

“By developing this renewable energy project, the university can produce up to 8.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity from clean energy per year. This will reduce the university’s electricity costs by up to 510 million baht over the 25-year life of the project and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 115,000 tons. The Floating Solar installation will reduce water evaporation in the reservoir by more than 30,000 cubic meters. meters per year This increases the efficiency of renewable energy potential. And it is a new learning center on solar energy for the community that plays an important role in conserving energy that is environmentally friendly and sustainable,” Mrs. Rosya said.

In this regard, the development of the said project It has begun operations since 2021 and can continue supplying electricity to the university system from the beginning of 2023 onwards. Details of the operation include installing an electrical system in 3 parts, consisting of Part 1. Solar Rooftop on the roofs of 5 buildings. Total electrical power is approximately 1.66 megawatts using Mono PERC Half-Cell Module solar panels with special properties made from silicon. Small cells with high performance Long service life. Part 2. Solar Rooftop, on the roof of the walkway of Academic Building 1, with an installed capacity of 0.06 megawatts, is a solar panel made of Bifacial Cells. It is unique in its design to allow light to shine through on both sides. For maximum efficiency (540 watt panel) Part 3. Floating Solar in the area of Sura Reservoir 1, total installed capacity approximately 4. 28 megawatts (540 watt panel) with G Float floating buoy, which is CHPP’s technology that uses raw material (raw material) of
special grade polyethylene plastic pellets mixed with UV light blocking substances. It has durable and friendly properties. with the environment It can also be returned to the recycling process after its useful life.

In addition, to increase energy efficiency to support the continuous demand for electricity from clean energy sources. And it is a prototype in the field of Peer to Peer Trading with the ability to report trading results in real-time. Therefore, a BESS system of 100 kilowatts/200 kilowatts has been installed. kilowatt-hours using the Monitoring Platform system, which is an artificial intelligence (AI) system to analyze electricity usage behavior in each period to be consistent with electricity production. This is considered to be the development of an intelligent electricity trading platform (Trading Platform) that will support efficient integrated energy management.

Associate Professor Anan Thongra-a, President of Suranaree University of Technology, said that the GPSC group is considered a partner in joint research and development on clean energy with the university. It is believed that in the future the project will turn Suranaree University of Technology into a clean energy showroom. Currently, the university has an electricity bill of approximately 100 million baht per year and if there is an increase in the FT fee. It is expected that the electricity bill will increase to 140 million baht per year. The project will be considered to help reduce the burden on electricity bills. and is a model project for using alternative energy that will be a source of learning for students in the future.

During the event, there was also an award ceremony for the contest for designing a wall pattern for the control room of a battery energy storage system (BESS), which was the work of students at Suranaree University of Technology. Also.
