Golden teakwood folk boat model, an auspicious souvenir that is popular among the superstitious.

Miscellaneous

A golden teakwood local boat model, developed from a childhood occupation into a beautiful handmade work, pleasing to the Mu line, with orders both domestically and internationally.

Miniature ancient boats, the size of a ten-baht coin, made from golden teak wood, are the creations of Ms. Prabhada, 50 years old, from Pa Mok, Ang Thong Province. She brought golden teak wood and 9 types of auspicious wood to make ancient boat models, including local boats, dugout boats, cargo boats, and small-sized boats, totaling 18 types, which are increasingly difficult to find these days. There are also krachang boats, rowboats, ghost boats, scorpion tail boats, and other types of boats that are realistically replicated. They can also be made into key chains, car hanging boats, or taken to a famous local monk to write a talisman and put it in a glass case for customers to take as souvenirs or auspicious gifts.

Phi Da said that in the past, her family worked as a boat transporter on the Chao Phraya River. Her life was conn
ected to boats. But now, the era has changed. Transportation uses boats less. So she wanted to preserve the ancient boats so that they still exist. She pawned the wood of an old Thai house to make various types of model boats and sold them on social media. It was well-received. So she continued to make model boats in various forms. Later, she thought of making the boats to be auspicious. So she used jackfruit wood, kankrao wood, and rosewood to make model boats and asked a respected monk to write a yantra for her.

Another highlight is the Super Ant model boat, which is a replica of Father’s sailboat and uses a baht coin with the image of King Rama IX as a symbol. It was made to commemorate King Rama IX and for the younger generation to know the history of these boats.

Now, there are people interested in ordering them both domestically and internationally. Prices start at 100 baht and up, depending on the size and difficulty. If anyone is interested, go to the Thai handicrafts local products page or go to th
