Bangkok, Election Commission reveals it has not yet approved the president of Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organization because it is still under investigation. It insists on announcing the approval within 60 days.

Mr. Ittiporn Boonprakong, Chairman of the Election Commission, talked about the progress of the certification of the election results for the president of the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organization, saying that it is currently in the investigation process regarding qualifications and prohibited characteristics. There is a time frame for considering and announcing the results within 60 days according to Section 17 of the Local Election Act. At present, if the investigation committee has completed its work, it must be forwarded according to the procedure for the Secretary-General of the Election Commission to give his opinion through the subcommittee for adjudication before sending it to the Election Commission to consider and announce the results. He confirmed that the annou
ncement of the results must be considered within 60 days. Whether or not it will take the full 60 days depends on when the investigation committee is finished. If everything can be done quickly, the results can be announced immediately.

When asked if the EC’s request for additional information investigation was related to the corruption case, Mr. Itthiphon said that it was not to find additional information, but rather a complaint was filed stating that there had been an act violating election laws. When the office accepted the complaint and saw that it was a case file, an investigation was conducted by the investigation committee to seek facts, evidence, and relevant persons for questioning before submitting an opinion on what to do.
