“Dr. Premsak – Nantana – Seranee” complained about being changed not to set up a special committee to solve the flood problem, saying that they escaped the military dictatorship and met the civilian dictatorship, making it difficult to talk. Revealed that the majority of the Senate resolutions were 150 to 40 votes, like common household medicine for the Senate.

Dr. Premsak Piayura, Senator, and his team held a press conference on the matter of proposing a motion to set up a special committee to consider and study urgent solutions to the disaster problem caused by floods. They have already coordinated with outsiders who have knowledge in each ministry and the directors-general of various disasters. However, they have cited the majority vote that they will not set up a committee but will let the standing committee consider and study, which is different from what was discussed. Furthermore, the establishment of the standing committee takes time. The committee will not be able to perform its duties by the end o
f September at the latest.

‘Today, there is a phenomenon where the majority will change their mind about anything without any shame about what they said last week. I have no other way but to let the people and the media see that we are a minority of only 30% who still work for the people. This issue is not related to politics at all. It is about flooding and most of our members are in flooded areas. Raising money to help is just a side effect. We have to fix the root cause of the system, which is inviting outsiders to fix it so that it is a stable and permanent system. This is our intention. Let’s wait and see what will happen tomorrow because there is a blockade of the minority’s work, so we don’t know the intention. We see that they want the minority not to work. They are ordered to do it anyway, which is unfair to the minority and we ask for fairness,’ said Dr. Premsak.

Dr. Premsak asked to follow the consideration to conclude tomorrow to see if anyone would propose not to set up the committee and to vot
e down or not. As for the senators who came out to say that if they set up the committee, will the water level decrease or not? He thought that such words were immature. He also stated that many senators had the opportunity to be the committee chairmen but were probably denied the opportunity, so he was disappointed and sad.

‘I don’t have any weapons to fight with the majority, but I feel sad because I fled from the military dictatorship but came back to a civilian dictatorship which is more serious. Instead of talking to each other easily, it is more difficult to talk to each other than the military dictatorship. If it is like this, it is dangerous for the people. Please give me a chance to set up a committee to help the people. If you notice, you will see the votes of 150 to 40 regularly, like a common household medicine,’ said Dr. Premsak Kaw.

Senator Seranee Anilbol said that the flooding problem should be raised to a national agenda because it is an important issue. Every flood in Thailand causes damag
e to the people. The government has to spend hundreds of billions of baht per year to repair the flooding. Therefore, it is considered that the lesson learned from 2011 must be learned to prevent such incidents from happening again in Thailand. In the past, billions of baht were spent on studies, but the results of the studies were put in a drawer and never used by the government or related agencies. Thailand has always had flooding problems. We had water to use, but then there was a drought problem without water to use. The cause was that we were not sincere, serious, and determined to solve this problem to the best of our ability. Therefore, I think that the special committee that was pushed for the establishment came from the people who are representatives of the Thai people, which is different from the previous senators because they were determined to work for the people.

Ms. Nantana Nantvaropas, Senator, said that previously, a motion regarding the Constitutional Court was rejected, which may be seen as
a political matter. However, the flooding issue is a public issue, a personal concern, which is the correct approach and appropriate for the role of the senators in the operation. Therefore, it is sad that we have to think in our hearts about what the senators are there for. Are they there to solve problems for the people or not?
