CPF confirms it is not the cause of the ‘black-chinned tilapia’ outbreak, not worried about being sued

Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL (CPF) reiterates that it has clarified the facts and is not the cause of the black chin tilapia outbreak. It is not concerned about the claim for damages.

Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL clarified this morning (September 6) that following the filing of a civil lawsuit against the company by a group of fishermen from Samut Songkhram Province and the Lawyers Council to claim compensation for the importation of black chin tilapia, the company would like to inform that the company has set up a working group to investigate the facts since the initiation of the study idea in 2006 until the end of the idea to conduct research on this issue in early 2011. It confirms that it is not the cause of the outbreak. However, the company is ready to enter the process to prove the facts as alleged and believes in the justice process that will lead to the verification of the facts in accordance with the legal process and ultimately lead to the correct understanding of society.

‘Although the company is
confident that it is not the cause of the black chin tilapia outbreak, it is well aware that this problem has been a significant problem in the past period. The company has come to support the integrated solution with all sectors and has taken proactive actions in many dimensions in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to alleviate the suffering of the people,’ the CPF news said.

By implementing 5 proactive projects, consisting of 1. Supporting the purchase of 2,000,000 kg of black chin tilapia to produce fish meal. More than 1,100,000 kg have been purchased and will continue to be purchased. 2. Supporting the government and community sectors to release 200,000 predatory fish. In the past, 70,000 sea bass have been delivered. 3. Supporting the government, community, and civil society sectors to organize fishing activities, supporting fishing equipment and manpower in every area with ongoing problems. In the past, we have supported 30 activities in 14 provinces, catching mo
re than 25,000 kg of black chin tilapia. 4. Developing food products from black chin tilapia in collaboration with educational institutions. 5. Jointly conducting research with experts to find ways to control the black chin tilapia population to develop ways to alleviate the problem in the long term, in collaboration with experts, educational institutions both domestically and internationally.
