Parliament, “Chulaphan” reveals the number of “Digital Wallet” registrations completed in 1 hour, 2.3 million people are expected on the first day, not less than 5 million people, confirms the government must stimulate the economy to grow to prevent a crisis, says people who prepare to exchange for cash are not smart, should not do it.

Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, Deputy Minister of Finance, announced the opening of digital wallet registration on August 1, 2024, which is the first day. At 08.00-09.00, the registration for the 10,000 baht digital wallet project was opened. After 1 hour after the opening of registration, 2.3 million people have requested to receive the rights and have completed the process of requesting the rights.

There were quite a few people logging in, and of course, there might have been some disruptions in the beginning. You could say that the electricity was a little bit too much because everyone logged in at the same time. At the moment, the situation is quite improved and is being fixed
at the point. For some people who are having problems, some of them are stuck loading because there are a lot of people logging in. The queuing system has to wait for seconds or maybe minutes. But if it is stuck and feels like it is too long, the technical team recommends that you delete the application and reload it because there might be some old data stuck in the previous download. Then you will get a new version of the government application.

Mr. Chulaphan expects that today (August 1) the number of registrants will not be less than 5 million on the first day and is a satisfactory number. The registration process for the digital wallet project is open for people with smartphones from today until September 15, which still has time to proceed. After this, when people spread out their registrations in each period, the application’s loading will be better and it will be able to support the desired number.

Mr. Chulaphan said that there are currently service centers, both community IT centers of the Ministry
of Digital Economy and Society (DE) nationwide, approximately 5,000 locations, and a hotline number 1111 for inquiries and discussions on problems that arise in order to solve them. Today, the Ministry of DE, the Ministry of Finance, and the Digital Government Development Agency have set up a wall room to monitor people’s downloads at all times, which is currently in a normal situation.

As for the part where digital money is exchanged for cash, Mr. Chulaphan said that it is unlikely to happen that quickly because the money has not yet reached their hands.

‘Currently, we can’t exchange because we don’t have the money yet. It’s impossible. We are closely monitoring it. The value of 10,000 baht in a digital wallet is the same as 10,000 baht that we hold in a bank. It’s no different. So, if we go to exchange at a discount, we’ll lose money. It’s not smart,’ said Mr. Chulaphan.

Mr. Chulaphan said that the entire system will be recorded and can be inspected. If an incident really happens, criminal charges will b
e filed. Therefore, he would like to warn everyone and think that not many people do it.

‘The government will take care of it carefully and not let any problems arise. It has used fiscal policy to stimulate the economy. In terms of the flexibility of the fiscal policy framework, there are no problems, no risks, and no concerns. Today, we will use economic stimulus to make the economy grow at an appropriate level and benefit the people nationwide. Or will we wait for a crisis to occur first? The government has chosen to prevent the crisis from occurring by stimulating the economy this time instead,’ said Mr. Chulaphan.

In the case of moving the house registration from the province to exercise the rights in Bangkok, it is confirmed that the house registration can be moved to the current address before registering to receive 10,000 baht in digital wallets, but the state cannot allow use in the current address that does not match the household registration.
