Chinese Embassy in Thailand clarifies that power plants in China have not released water recently

Miscellaneous

A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Thailand told the media that recently, many areas in the north and northeast of Thailand have experienced flooding. The Chinese side is very concerned about this issue.

According to preliminary inquiries with relevant departments in China, the water conditions of the river sections in China have recently been normal, and the relevant reservoirs of the Lancang River have been in a water storage state. From August 18 to 25, the average daily outflow of the Jinghong Hydropower Station has dropped by 60% compared with August of the previous year, and no drainage operation has been carried out. The six countries in the Lancang River Basin form a community with a shared future connected by mountains and rivers.

The Chinese side fully respects and cares about the interests and concerns of the countries in the river basin. China is willing to promote water resource information sharing and cooperation, enhance integrated management capacity in the river basin, and jointly
cope with climate change, flood disasters and other challenges.
