“Anutin” urges Interior Ministry to support flood relief efforts, closely monitors situation

Anutin” urges all Interior Ministry agencies to provide support for flood relief in Mae Sai and Mae Ai districts, emphasizing the highest importance of caring for people’s lives, closely monitoring the situation and arranging a plan to reduce the impact after the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported heavy rain and continuous increase in water volume, and expressing condolences to the families of those who died from the landslide.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul said that he has instructed executives of all relevant agencies of the Ministry of Interior to be ready to provide support and assistance to people who are suffering from severe flooding in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, and Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai Province, giving the highest priority to helping people’s lives.

In this regard, the governors of both Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces are instructed to closely monitor the flood situation and implement disaster prevention plans to mi
nimize the impact on people’s lives and properties as much as possible after receiving a report from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) that there is continuous heavy rain in both provinces, especially in Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai Province, Mae Sai District, Mueang Chiang Rai District, Chiang Rai Province, and it is known that in Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai Province, there was a landslide and it was reported that 1 person died from the incident and 4 people are still missing.

‘I understand that at present, the Mae Sai district has a rather severe water situation. There have been cases of people trapped on rooftops, and it is difficult for officials to use boats to help. I would like to ask the Interior Ministry’s agencies, such as the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, which have the necessary equipment and machinery, to consider helping the people as much as possible. From the reports, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is ready to help, but the sa
fety of those helping must also be considered. I would like to urge the governors of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai to closely monitor water data. In a disaster situation, please stay in the area and act as a mediator in coordinating with all sectors to manage the problem in case of an emergency. Regarding the landslide in Mae Ai district, Chiang Mai, I would like to express my condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones in this disaster. I would like to urge the areas to help provide information and warnings to prevent such incidents from happening again,’ said Mr. Anutin.

For the latest flood impact report, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that flooding has occurred in 7 provinces: Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Tak, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Ang Thong, and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. 14,328 households have been affected.
