Three Taiwanese presidential candidates have their last day of campaigning today. Hope to receive votes in the election that will be held on Saturday, January 13th.

Lai Qingde, 64, vice president of Taiwan and chairman of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and Hou Youyi, 66, of the largest opposition Kuomintang party. will campaign for the last time in New Taipei City which has the most voters among the six special administrative municipalities, while Mr. Ke Wenze, 64, chairman of the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP), which he founded in 2019 and is the largest opposition party 2 will campaign for the last time in front of the Presidential Palace in Taipei.

Analysts believe Lai has a lead over his other two competitors, but his party is likely to win fewer seats in parliament in parliamentary elections to be held on the same day as the presidential election. Mr. Lai said: Even though he won the election Taiwan will not be able to move forward if the DPP does not win a majority in parliament.

While
Mr. Hou wants the party to hold the presidency again in eight years, he said Taiwan is about to go to war because of the DPP’s policies. He will deter China by strengthening its defense capabilities. along with expanding negotiations and exchanges with China to reduce the risk of clashes. He asked voters and Mr. Kerr’s supporters to cast their votes for him to ensure a change of government.

Mr. Ke promised to increase the defense budget to 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) and to promote cultural and economic exchanges with China. and asks voters to join together to overthrow the DPP and the Kuomintang Party.
